The Enigmas by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz offers the first translation into English of these divine “riddles,” written for a literary academy of Portugese nuns in ca. 1693. Two accompanying essays tell the fascinating story of the 1968 “rediscovery” of this manuscript, previously considered lost. The translator, Glenna Luschei, writes intimately about her many years of working with these poems, which are presented in Spanish and in English. Handset in 12 point Bodoni book, and printed letterpress onto Arches text laid cream. Linoleum cuts by Anita Segalman appear on all four covers.
